You can, of course, call your Startershop anything you like, and you can change the welcome text on your homepage to whatever you like. We will ask you for a shop name, for e.g. Bob’s Stationery, and a "tagline", e.g. …paper, pen’s, paperclips, we’ve got the lot!, both of which will appear at the top of many of the pages in your Startershop. (We do recommend that the shop name and tagline have something to do with your business, as this will help you with search engine optimisation.)
Your shop web address, which you may have heard referred to as a "domain name", is also important. Startershop allows you to pick your shop web address in the following way:
(If you have bought a domain name elsewhere, you may want to skip ahead to the part labelled "Your Own Domain Name")
Your Startershop web & email addresses are composed of two parts. One part you can make up yourself, while the other part you choose from a list. Together the two will form a unique web address for your Startershop, e.g. http://www.my-shop.browseorbuy.com/. (We will run some checks to ensure no other Startershop owners are using this web address.)
The first part of your shop’s web address is the part you choose freely, e.g. "bobs-stationery" in http://www.bobs-stationery.browseorbuy.com.
The second part of your shop’s web address, e.g. "browseorbuy.com" in http://www.bobs-stationery.browseorbuy.com is picked from the list below:
- browseorbuy.com
- buy-from.com
- craftyshop.com
- designsales.co.uk
- salesdivision.co.uk
- shop-with.com
- shop121.co.uk
- shopto.me.uk
- thecraftline.co.uk
Your Own Domain Name
You may have bought your own domain name, e.g. www.bobs-stationery.com, this shouldn’t be a problem. The host you bought your domain name from should be able to point it at your Startershop. This will enable visitors to reach your Startershop by typing your domain name into their browser, although your Startershop will not actually reside on that domain name. We can help you with the best way to request your domain name host to set this up.
